Troubleshooting DSL-300+
If you can browse the Internet when DSL-300+ modem is connected to one computer but can not access the Internet when the modem is connected to a different computer:
When you are setting up modem's configuration via WEB interface and saving it, modem "links" to your network card (network card's MAC address).
So if you want to use the modem on a different PC you need to "link" the modem to this PC, do the following:
Login into the modem's WEB interface. Click here if you are having troubles with it.
Go to Accounts Management. Put a tick next to the account you've previously created and click on Delete.
If the modem is already connected to another computer go to Account Configuration and set up your account (e.g. PPPoE, enter username and password. TELSTRA users have to add @bigpond to their user names).
Click on OK to save settings.
If you can browse the Internet when DSL-300+ modem is connected to one computer but can not access the Internet when the modem is connected to a router:
When you are setting up modem's configuration via WEB interface and saving it, modem "links" to your network card (network card's MAC address).
So if you want to use the modem with a router you need to "link" the modem with your router, do the following:
Connect modem to WAN (Internet) port of your router. Make sure the link light comes up on this port. Some routers may require a cross-over cable insted of straight-through cable. If you are getting a link light the cable is OK.
Set your router's LAN IP address to a subnet different from 192.168.0.x (for example use 192.168.1.1 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0). Set your router's WAN (Internet) port to "Dynamic IP". Save settings on your router. Reboot your computer. Your computer should now get a new IP address from the router, something like 192.168.1.x.
Login into the modem's WEB interface by entering 192.168.0.1 address in Internet Explorer. Click here if you are having troubles with it.
Go to Accounts Management. Put a tick next to the account you've previously created and click on Delete.
If the modem is already connected to your router go to Account Configuration and set up your account (e.g. PPPoE, enter username and password. TELSTRA users have to add @bigpond to their user names).
Click on OK to save settings.
How to access modem's WEB interface.
First set your computer up to obtain IP address automatically:
You can do this under Control Panel > Network > TCP/IP (linked to your network card) > Properties. In Windows XP select Local Area Connection > Properties. Connect your computer to the modem (or router) using straight-through cable, make sure you are getting a link light on the modem (or router) on the port you have the computer connected to.
Restart PC.
After rebooting check the IP address that you have got:
in Win95/98 - go to Start > Run > winipcfg > OK > select your adapter and look under IP Address.
in Win2000/XP go to Start > Run > cmd > OK > ipconfig /all > look for IP Address.
It should be something like 192.168.0.x (or 192.168.1.x if connected to router).
If it is not - do the following:
in Win95/98 - go to Start > Run > winipcfg > OK > select your adapter and press Release All and then Renew All.
in Win2000/XP go to Start > Run > cmd > OK > ipconfig /release (hit Enter) > ipconfig /renew (hit Enter)
Start your Internet browser (ensure that any proxy settings are disabled. In IE: under Tools > Internet Options > Connection > LAN Settings). Then, type the IP address of the modem (the default IP address is 192.168.0.1) into the Location (for Netscape) or Address (for IE) field and press "Enter" For example: http://192.168.0.1. After the connection is established, you will see the web interface.
