Troubleshooting ADSL connection DSL-300, DSL-300+, DSL-500, DSL-504
If you are experiencing intermittent disconnections on your existing or new ADSL link (ADSL Link LED is going off then on again, then off and so on), it is very likely that your local DSLAM has been upgraded or new DSLAM is being installed. Please perform the following (once only) to accomodate this change:
Step 1. Connect to the router/modem's command line interface.
If your router/modem has Serial Port (RS232) which looks like this:
use a serial cable which comes with the router/modem. If it looks like a telephone socket please go to Option B.
Option A. Connect one end of cable to the router/modem and another end to the serial (COM) port of your computer.
Click the Windows Start button, point to Programs > Accessories > (Communications) > HyperTerminal. Double click the Hypertrm.exe icon.
In HyperTerminal window in the Name field, type: Test and click OK.
In the Phone Number dialog select Connect using: COM1 (or COM2 if you are using COM2). Click OK.

In next window set Port Settings: Bits per second: 9600 (8, None, 1, Hardware)

Click on OK. The HyperTerminal window will appear. Press ENTER and you should get a prompt which looks like:
192.168.0.1 > Go to Step 2.
Option B. In order to get access to router/modem's command line interface you can use Telnet. In Windows click on Start > Run... and type
telnet 192.168.0.1 (where 192.168.0.1 is router/modem's IP address. DSL-300 has 192.168.1.1 address).
Click on OK. You will be prompted to enter password. Default password is "private".
STEP 2. Applying settings.
Once you have got a command line interface prompt please apply the following commands:
itex line down
itex mode auto
itex priority 1
config save
restart
After rebooting the router/modem wait about 1-2 minutes - eventually you should see ADSL LED light to come on indicating a physical link with ADSL.
If ADSL LED does not come up try the following:
itex line down
itex mode dmt
config save
restart
