1. What is included in the DES-6000?
The DES-6000 chassis comes with the DES-6002 CPU module
along with a single DES-6011 Power Supply. The Ethernet modules are
optional.
2. What is the backplane bandwidth of the DES-6000?(Back to
FAQ Questions)
The backplane of the DES-6000 is 23.1G and scalable up to
42.7G.
3. How many slots are available in the DES-6000 for Ethernet
modules?
The DES-6000 chassis has 9 slots, however, only 8 slots are
available for Ethernet modules since the first slot (uppermost) is
reserved for the DES-6002 CPU module.
NOTE: The DES-6000 will not function without the
DES-6002.
4. What is the DES-6000 maximum port density?(Back to
FAQ Questions)
The maximum port density for 10/100 is 128 (8 DES-6003). For
Gigabit, the maximum is 16 ports. For 100BASE-FX ports, the maximum is
96 ports (8 DES-6004)
5. What kind of redundancy is available in the DES-6000?
The DES-6000 chassis offers two slots for Power Supply
(DES-6011) redundancy as well load balancing. The DES-6000 "port
trunking" feature supports redundancy and load balancing.
6. What modules are hot swappable?(Back to
FAQ Questions)
The DES-6011 Power Supply module is hot swappable, however,
the DES-6002 CPU module is NOT hot swappable. The Ethernet
modules (DES-6003-DES6007) are hot swappable but the DES-6000 will
automatically reboot for the management component to recognize the added
module.
NOTE: Hot swapping the DES-6002 CPU Module will damage the
DES-6000.
7. What are the different ways to manage the DES-6000?(Back to
FAQ Questions)
- Console through the RS-232 port
- Telnet
- Web based Management
- SNMP i.e. D-view
- RMON program
8. What is the port-trunking spec for the DES-6000?
The DES-6000 supports up to 16 trunk groups. With the
current firmware, each module on the DES-6000 supports up to two trunk
groups.
9. What are the types of VLAN supported by the DES-6000?(Back to
FAQ Questions)
- MAC based – up to 12 MAC-based broadcast domains
- Port based – up to 24 port-based VLANs
- IEEE 802.1Q – up to 2048 VLANs
10. Which 1000BASE module supports single mode fiber?
The DES-6007 (2-port 1000BASE-LX) module supports single
mode fiber whereas DES-6006 (2-port 1000BASE-SX) supports multimode
fiber.
11. What type of 1000BASE fiber connection does the DES-6000 modules
support?(Back to
FAQ Questions)
- SC
- MTRJ
12. What type of 100BASE-FX connection does the DES-6004 module
support?
The DES-6004 (12 port 100BASE-FX) supports MT-RJ, not SC.
13. How can one assign an IP address to the DES-6000?
- Manually
- BOOTP
- DHCP
14. What additional features will be included in firmware release
II?(Back to
FAQ Questions)
- GARP/GVRP
- GARP/GMRP
- Gigabit trunking
- IGMPv2 support
15. How can I upload the new firmware?
Through a TFTP server such as the TFTP server included in
D-View.
