The D-Link DWL-6620APS Unifed AC Wave 2 Wireless Access Point is designed for small to medium businesses and enterprises, providing greater throughput and flexibility for medium to large-scale Wi-Fi networks. Featuring D-Link Smart Antenna technology, the DWL-6620APS allows your wireless clients to enjoy an unprecedented Wi-Fi experience and reliable connection. Not only can it operate in standalone mode, the DWL-6620APS can also be centrally managed by D-Link Unifed Wireless Controllers.

The DWL-6620APS leverages the full potential of 802.11ac Wave 2 to provide unparalleled connectivity with ultra-high combined data rates. The Smart Antenna technology selects the optimal radiation pattern for each client and uses digital beam forming to enhance the antenna gain and achieve optimal throughput. The DWL-6620APS supports Link Aggregation, which allows two Gigabit Ethernet ports to be linked together and act as a single port to double the available bandwidth.
D‑Link’s Smart Antenna technology processes algorithms used to identify spatial signal signatures such as Direction Of Arrival, and uses them to calculate beamforming vectors which are then used to target the wireless client and achieve the best possible throughput. The fast channel selection feature scans all channels and rapidly selects the one with the least interference. And the Null Steering capability curtails the power in the direction of interference to mitigate its influence. With these capabilities the D-Link Smart Antenna strengthens the connection reliability in real-time and delivers an optimised wireless user experience.

With support for MU-MIMO (Multi-User Multiple Input Multiple Output), the DWL-6620APS simultaneously communicates with multiple clients using multiple antennas. This allows the access point to utilise the spectrum more efficiently and significantly increase the network capacity. The 2 x 2 MU-MIMO takes full advantage of all streams to serve more wireless clients, dramatically improving wireless performance.
When working in conjunction with D-Link Unified Switch/Controllers, the DWL-6620APS, like other UAPs in the product line, may be centrally managed. This allows a large number of APs to be deployed and managed easily and efficiently. Once the APs are discovered by the switch/controller, the administrator can push specific set of configurations onto them, rather than having to do so one by one. In addition, RF resource management and security are also managed centrally, thus allowing the administrator to pre-emptively identify potential deficiencies and weaknesses in the network.

When a number of access points are deployed close to each other, interference may result if proper RF management isn’t implemented. When a DWL-6620APS senses a neighbor nearby, it will automatically select a noninterfering channel. This greatly reduces RF interference and will allow the administrator to deploy APs more densely. To further minimize interference, when a nearby AP is operating on the same channel, the DWL-6620APS will automatically lower its transmission power2. When, for whatever reason, the nearby AP is no longer present, the DWL-6620APS will increase its transmission power to expand coverage.
802.11k Fast Roaming allows wireless clients to move seamlessly between access points2. 802.1p Quality of Service (QoS) provides enhanced throughput and better performance of time‑sensitive traffic like VoIP and streaming DSCP. It also supports Wi‑Fi Multimedia (WMM), so in the event of network congestion, time‑sensitive traffic can be prioritised. Airtime Fairness ensures that equal airtime is given to each client, preventing slower devices from monopolising the wireless connection.

The DWL-6620APS supports 802.1p Quality of Service (QoS) for enhanced throughput and better performance of time-sensitive traffic like VoIP and streaming DSCP. The DWL-6620APS is WMM-certified, so in the event of network congestion, time-sensitive traffic can be given priority ahead of other traffic. Furthermore, when a number of DWL-6620APS's are in close proximity with each other, an access point will refuse new association requests once its resources are fully utilized. Instead, the association request will be picked up by a neighboring unit. This feature ensures that no single AP is overburdened while others nearby sit idle.
1 Maximum wireless signal rate derived from IEEE standard 802.11 and 802.11ac specifications. Actual data throughput will vary. Network conditions and environmental factors, including volume of network traffic, building materials and construction, and network overhead, lower actual data throughput rate. Environmental factors will adversely affect wireless signal range.
2 This feature is available when Unified AP is used in conjunction with D-Link’s line of Unified Wireless Switches/controllers.
